New Tagging Regulations

Ohio has made some considerable changes with the hunting regulations
this year.  The days of taking your deer to a check in station no longer
exist, it is now automated.  You have two options when checking in your
deer:  you can either call 1-877-TAGITOH     (1-877-824-4864) or you can
visit www.wildohio.com .  If you choose the ladder after you get to the
website click on “Wild Ohio Customer Center” and then click on “Game
Check: Report a Deer or Turkey Harvest.”  Make sure you use a computer
that is hooked up to a working printer because a game check receipt will
be issued.  Regardless of your check in method, the hunter must provide
the 10-digit permit number, which is printed in large numbers on every
permit.  Landowners CANNOT use the telephone game check option.
Only the website www.wildohio.com can be used.

The automated check in will provide you with an 18-digit permanent tag
number which must be written on the permanent tag in the spaces
provided.  If the hunter takes his or her deer to a butcher for processing,
the permanent tag marked “To be maintained with Meat/Carcass Only”
must be given to and kept by the butcher while he or she has the
carcass/meat.  When the permanent tag is returned to the hunter after
processing the hunter must keep the permanent tag until all of the meat is
consumed.  If a hunter gives antlers or hide to a taxidermist, the
permanent tag marked “To be Attached to Antlers or Hide Only” must
remain attached to the antlers or hide.

Have a safe deer season!
